Nurse Externs (Perioperative Services)

Nemours is seeking Nurse Externs to join our team in Wilmington, DE! We are looking to hire nursing students who are graduating in May of 2024 with a specific interest in perioperative services.
We are looking to hire nursing students in our Pre-Surgical Care Unit, Operating Room, and Post Anesthesia Care Unit.
The Nurse Extern will have the ability to build upon previous coursework and clinical practicums to combine the scientific process, evidence, clinical judgement, and creative problem solving to support clinical decision making across care continuum.
During the program, Nurse Externs will assist with general activities of the patient care unit and assist the health care team with performance of patient care activities, under the direction and guidance of a Registered Nurse.
At the conclusion of the program, Nurse Externs will have the opportunity to transition into a Registered Nurse role.
Progression of Role:
The Nurse Extern will have the opportunity to progress through the roles of Nursing Assistant, Unit Clerk, Patient Safety Companion, and interview for the Nurse Residency.
If accepted into the Residency, upon graduation, the Nurse Resident will work with members of the Nursing Professional Development Team, preceptors, and Unit Leadership to review skills outlined in the Registered Nurse Orientation Checklist, complete simulation experiences, and review didactic content.
Essential Functions Ensures all equipment and supplies are adequately stocked and charged based on departmental needs.
Ensures a clean and safe patient care unit.
Assists patients with activities of daily life (bath, feed, play, etc.
) and provides other patient care as directed.
Demonstrates knowledge to effectively relay information from collaborating departments as it relates to patient care.
Safely and accurately collect patient specimens.
Proficiently demonstrate proper and accurate use of Hospital Information Systems as required for patient care, (e.
g.
documenting vital signs and patient care activities.
) Transports patients and deliver report, supplies, etc.
, to other patient units or facility locations as needed.
Participates in unit, departmental, and hospital education programs.
Attends unit/departmental meetings.
Knowledgeable in the care of patients of all ages:
neonates, infants, toddlers, school aged, adolescents and adults.
Seeks knowledge in relation to patient's condition, disease entity or treatment and reflects this in patient care.
Reinforces patient teaching and instructions as directed by the RN.
Job Requirements Enrolled in an accredited nursing program (3.
5 GPA preferred or higher) Basic Life Support from the American Heart Association required upon start Recommended Skills Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (Acls) Basic Life Support Certified Nurse Practitioner Clinical Works Creative Problem Solving Decision Making Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.
