NO benefits (annual leave, sick leave, health insurance, life insurance or retirement) come with this position. Fee basis personnel do not have status as a VA employee and this position does not confer competitive status

The incumbent will provide complete otolaryngology-head and neck-related diagnostic, management, and illness-related counselling services to the veteran population served by the facility. The candidate's responsibilities will include provision of specialty-related consultative services through both clinic visits and electronic means. In addition to developing appropriate diagnostic and treatment plans, the candidate will have a central role in coordinating care for veterans, as necessary, both within the VA system as well as with non-VA practitioners and facilities.
Specific services will cover the usual range of general adult otolaryngology-head and neck surgery and include, but not necessarily be limited to; problem based assessments and recommendations, as well as correspondence to referring providers, thoroughly documented in the patient's electronic medical record in addition to standard-of-otolaryngology clinic procedures such as nasopharyngolaryngoscopy, myringotomy with pressure equalization tube placement, biopsy and/or excision of minor head and neck lesions, and control of epistaxis. The operative case mix is quite diverse and includes sinonasal indications, major ear cases, salivary gland disease, thyroidectomy, and head and neck cancer. Clinical support for the otolaryngology service includes a full-service audiology department, well-equipped operative suite, and 24/7 emergency department. Additionally, the service is supported through ongoing clinical relationships with several other VA medical centers, including the Philadelphia and Pittsburgh centers. As the sole operative otolaryngologist, there is no specified on-call schedule; however, the otolaryngologist will be responsible and available, as necessary, for managing, directly or indirectly, peri-operative issues that may arise with his/her patients
Work Schedule:Fee Basis providers work on an as needed basis to provide primary care to veterans.
Basic Requirements :
Must be proficient in written and spoken English.
Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine.
Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
