Registered Nurse Clinical Applications Coordinator
The following are the core overarching principles adhered to by the informatics nurse:
- Incorporates theories, principles, and concepts from appropriate sciences into informatics practice (e.g., information, systems, implementation methods, workflow analysis, process redesign, organizational culture, database structure, project management, etc.) - Integration of ergonomics and human-computer interaction (HCI) principles into informatics solution design, development, selection, implementation, and evaluation. - Systematically determines the social, legal, regulatory, and ethical impact of an informatics solution design on clinical workflow and the healthcare system. -Develops presentations and reports utilizing data and data analysis appropriate for both internal and external stakeholders regarding clinical software, managing the implementation, oversight, and use of clinical technology, the electronic medical record, to guide change, track compliance, identify organizational needs or highlighting improvements. -Formulates data tools for quality management and clinical oversight, extracting data from VA's corporate data systems. Conceptualizes, designs and/or assists in the development of templates, reminders, order sets and other tools to collect and/or report required clinical and administrative information. -Develops and presents recommendations for improving clinical data-management methods, follow-up procedures and timely compliance with regulatory guidelines. -Advises facility informatics personnel on the maintenance of electronic health record site parameters and electronic health record site-specific files as necessary to ensure consistent and proper functioning of complex interrelated and interdependent software applications. The Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). In cases of graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing, possession of current, full, active and unrestricted registration will meet the requirement of graduation from an approved school of professional nursing. OR The completion of coursework equivalent to a nursing degree in a MSN Bridge Program that qualifies for professional nursing registration constitutes the completion of an approved course of study of professional nursing. Students should submit the certificate of professional nursing to sit for the NCLEX to the VA along with a copy of the MSN transcript. (Reference VA Handbook 5005, Appendix G6) OR In cases of graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing, possession of a current, full, active and unrestricted registration will meet the requirement for graduation from an approved school of professional nursing. The following criteria must be met in determining the grade assignment of candidates, and if appropriate, the level within a grade:
Nurse I Level I - An Associate Degree (ADN) or Diploma in Nursing, with no additional nursing practice/experience required. Nurse I Level II - An ADN or Diploma in Nursing and approximately 1 year of nursing practice/experience; OR an ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a bachelor's degree in a related field with no additional nursing practice/experience; OR a Bachelor's of Science in Nursing (BSN) with no additional nursing practice/experience. Nurse I Level III - An ADN or Diploma in Nursing and approximately 2-3 years of nursing practice/experience; OR an ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a Bachelor's degree in a related field and approximately 1-2 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a BSN with approximately 1-2 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a Master's degree in nursing (MSN) or related field with a BSN and no additional nursing practice/experience. Standing (up to 2 hours), walking (up to 6 hours), stooping, bending, reaching, lifting, and turning; repositioning patients, assisting with transfers; pushing or lifting more than 45 pounds; visual (corrected to 20/30 or better with color discrimination); auditory acuity; arms above shoulder level; neck in a fully flexed or extended position; work on computers for extended periods of time. Work is primarily conducted in a well-ventilated, adequately heated and cooled building. May be exposed to inclement weather when traveling around medical center. May be exposed to normal office irritants - dust, pollen, noise, vibrations, or odors. May be exposed to therapy animals with and without advanced notice. May be exposed to patients and family in emotional upheaval or extreme pain. Must have emotional stability to properly care for usual patient population.
