Physician (Chief Health Informatics Officer)

The Chief HIO is part of a nationwide Veterans Health Administration (VHA) team charged with actively and vocally supporting the goal of establishing a workable national informatics infrastructure for VHA, and for advancing national solutions for managing workflow and knowledge in clinical systems. The CHIO will participate in VA Central Office and VISN 4 activities to ensure that informatics is established as a professional domain in VHA, and that best practices are identified or developed and made available throughout the VHA health care community. Standard methods of coordinating, prioritizing, troubleshooting, and implementing initiatives, in addition to creativity and innovation are required to accomplish work successfully. New wireless technology allows greater portability of patient data, and the incumbent continually enhances delivery of information and care at the bedside. PATIENT CARE Play key role in using the capability of the VA clinical information systems to assist practitioners in doing the right things for the right patients at the right time. Ensure adequate support to measurably improve the quality of data and the transfer of clinical information between providers. Ensure valid information is available to the patients and to their health care practitioner. TECHNOLOGY AND INFORMATICS Evaluate clinical computing systems; analyze and evaluate the effect of interventions on health outcomes. Expand and enhance patient access to patient information through the various initiatives, and further the effective and efficient use of medical information systems for patients. Contribute to the planning and execution of computer hardware/software development to meet patient care needs and ensure optimal computer use. Use available tools to provide data to management for strategic and operative planning and employ such data to guide management decisions. Coordinate the procurement process within the network to facilitate the technical portion of any software/hardware purchase that incorporates clinical information systems. COLLABORATION Coordinate information management support for clinical activities within the Network by participating collaboratively with staff to design, implement, and evaluate the clinical information systems configuration, and the capabilities that will be used. Work closely with the Department of Veterans Affairs' Office of Information and Technology (OI&T), Biomedical Engineering, Integrated Clinical Communities, Nursing and other clinical staff. Work collaboratively with VA Central Office and staff from other Networks to develop and implement informatics-related policies, both local and national. Participate as a liaison between facilities and committees, teams and ad hoc external working groups. Work collaboratively with appropriate leadership to identify strategic opportunities and initiatives that will enhance organizational improvement efforts through the systematic application of informatics principles and tools. Serve as the Chairperson for the VISN 4 Health Informatics Subcommittee. Travel regularly between network facilities to establish a good working relationship with site level staff working in support of informatics and to encourage collaboration and sharing among facilities within the Network. Coordinate the collaboration of informatics with quality assurance, clinical cost analysis, equipment procurements, biomedical and OI&T activities for the VISN. Work in a collaborative fashion with Clinical Application Coordinators to assure network wide deployment and coordination regarding informatics initiatives. Provide fair, principled, decisive leadership to facility staff inspiring a climate of productivity, effectiveness and high morale. POLICY DEVELOPMENT AND IMPLEMENTATION Ensure that all local and national informatics policies are implemented properly and in a timely manner. Develop, integrate, and coordinate operation of these programs and responsibilities facility wide. OTHER DUTIES APPROPRIATE TO THE FACILITY/INDIVIDUAL POSITION National leadership of projects, workgroups, and committees. United States Citizenship:
Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed. Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia. Completion of residency training, or its equivalent, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification. Experience:
Comprehensive knowledge of health informatics through a combination of education and experience. Electronic Health Record implementation or optimization experience. Reference:

The physician should be physically and mentally capable to perform the duties of the position. Physical activities include sitting, standing, walking (up to 2 hours), heavy lifting (45 pounds or over), reaching above the shoulder, and repeated bending.

The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
