Physician (General Surgeon)

Surgeon examines, diagnoses, and treats or prescribes course of treatment for patients having disorders, malformations, diseases, and/or injuries and is required to deliver surgical procedures in the operating room and clinical areas. The surgeon is expected to follow each patient through the full continuum of care process as appropriate. This potentially includes admissions, discharges, performing histories and physicals, requesting and writing orders for diagnostic tests and procedures, and completing informed consents. Endoscopy skills are preferred. Responsibilities include:
Performing inpatient and outpatient surgical operations Clinic duties Outpatient, inpatient, and Emergency Department surgery consultations/evaluations for new and established patients Participate in ward rounds and any other relevant activities as necessary for initial and follow-up patient care Provide on call staffing needs for the General Surgery Department Provide follow-up for patients who have undergone surgery and provide assessment and counseling for patients who develop a problem related to a surgery Responsible for educating patients and family members Will adhere to policies and procedures regarding the completion of all required orders, operation/procedure notes/reports, discharge summaries, progress notes, clinical reminders, all other required medical documentation, and performance measures Will ensure the most effective delivery of care, while meeting and exceeding compliance, Joint Commission and VA Central Office performance measure standards Will train and provide supervision for mid-levels and students in all aspects of their duties as required Maintain current medical licensure, DEA certification, Board Certification, BLS and ACLS certification Maintain CME requirements. Perform other directly related duties as required. Maintain professional and collegial decorum. Types of procedures the Surgeon will perform may include, but are not limited to:
Open and laparoscopic hernia repair Open and laparoscopic cholecystectomy Open and laparoscopic appendectomy Open and laparoscopic small bowel procedures Open and laparoscopic colon resection Removal of skin and soft tissue lesions Upper and lower endoscopies Placement of central venous access devices such as central venous catheters, chemotherapy ports, and dialysis catheters Treatment of anal disease such as fissures, fistulas, and hemorrhoids Also, ability to perform and demonstrated competency in upper and lower endoscopic procedures is highly desirable Work Schedule:

United States Citizenship:
Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed. Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia. Completion of residency training, or its equivalent, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification. Heavy lifting (45 lbs and over); reaching above shoulder; use of fingers; walking (3 hours per day); standing (6 hours per day); kneeling (2 hours per day); both legs required; ability for rapid mental and muscular coordination simultaneously; near vision correctable at 13 to 16; far vision correctable in one eye to 20/20 and to 20/40 in the other; ability to distinguish basic colors; hearing (aid permitted).

The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
