The Housekeeping Aid position is an extremely vital position and is being advertised at numerous locations within the Veteran's Health Administration within the Environmental Management Service (EMS)!!! The agency is offering full-time positions at Coatesville, Lebanon, Philadelphia, Wilkes-Barre, and Wilmington. At this time, the only location offering both full-time and part-time positions is the Lebanon VA Medical Center. The Housekeeping Aid performs a variety of cleaning and sanitation related tasks. Typically, the incumbent works independently with general supervision, or works with a team and is responsible for the full-range cleaning duties in assigned are throughout the hospital including patient care units, offices, community areas and linen rooms. The incumbent may be assigned to any tour and may be required to work in various designated areas during one tour of duty. The incumbent of this position performs routine and specialized tasks in completing sanitation duties in critical care areas as assigned. In addition to the routine and specialized tasks assigned the incumbent may be assigned to clean patient-discharge, inter-ward transfers of long-term care patient units. They will be familiar with sanitation techniques for maintaining an aseptically clean and aesthetically pleasing environment as well as for the protection and safety of patients, visitors and staff alike. The incumbent will be familiar with the safe and proper operation and daily maintenance of a variety of electrically operated equipment. This equipment may include but is not limited to vacuums (dry/wet), buffers, automatic floor scrubbers (walk behind/riding), high pressure washers, carpet extractors, compactors, etc. Routine tasks include but are not limited to:
Waste Removal Dusting and Polishing Damp Mopping Bed Washing Cleaning of Restrooms Restocking Supplies Maintenance of Equipment Used Moving heavy furniture during cleaning process Cleaning Walls and Ledges Cleaning of Patient Units Folding Linen Work Schedule:

Your background must demonstrate your knowledge of proper procedures/techniques used in completing housekeeping tasks in a variety of cleaning duties, such as sweeping, mopping, and waxing floors; cleaning surfaces such as light fixtures, venetian blinds, and counter-tops; and cleaning restroom facilities including toilets, baths, and sinks.
Experience:
A specific length of training and experience is not required, but you must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality of your ability to do the work of this position. Those who meet the minimum level of experience and training for the screen-out element will then be evaluated in each of the following job elements:

A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. PHYSICAL EFFORT/REQUIREMENTS:
The position requires performance of work which involves light physical effort, such as that involved in using vacuum cleaners and dry mops; continually standing, bending, stooping and reaching; frequently lifting and emptying waste baskets; frequently pushing carts loaded with waste; and lifting and carrying items weighing up to 20 pounds. Also performs work which involves moderate to heavy physical effort, such as required to move heavy equipment and furniture, i.e., heavy industrial vacuum cleaners, heavy duty floor scrubbers and buffers, couches, beds, etc., and lifting, carrying and/or moving items weighing up to 40-50 pounds. WORKING CONDITIONS:
Usually works indoors in areas which normally have adequate heat, light, and ventilations. Will be exposed to vibration from heavy equipment and to skin irritations from strong cleaning solutions used in stripping floors, etc., as well as subject to cuts and bruises. Continually exposed to dust, dirt, and disagreeable odors, and is frequently exposed to organic material which may be contaminated and/or infectious and require special handling.
